Groom forced to miss his own stag do in Benidorm after he couldn’t …

A GROOM was forced to miss his own stag do after he was unable to find his passport the night before he was due to jet off.

Hapless Nick Gates was looking forward to a tear-up with 17 of his best mates ahead of his wedding to fiancée Laura July.

Nick’s predicament didn’t stop his 17 pals going on the stag do to Benidorm without him

But, instead of enjoying the delights of Benidorm, Spain, he found himself grouting tiles in his mum’s kitchen.

The 30-year-old trader said: “I was gutted. I thought somebody must have hid it from me and were playing a prank on me.

“I was really looking forward to it, I never thought that I wouldn’t be on my own stag do.

“My first impression was that my best man was winding me up. I said, ‘No you’re joking, I know you’ve got it’.

“I turned my flat upside down to try and find it but I had no such luck.

“I was pretty stressed but everyone else thought it was a wind up. They thought I would be sitting by the pool when they turned up at the hotel but obviously I wasn’t there.”

Nick, from Loughton, Essex, added: “I spent Friday morning ringing every airline I could to see if I could fly with just my driving license but I couldn’t. I thought there must be a way I could fly. I only had my passport a month ago.

“I ended up grouting the tiles in my mum’s kitchen on Friday whilst the others were around the pool.

“I don’t blame them for going without me, I probably would have done the same. I’m never going to live this down.”

Nick will be going on his honeymoon to Mauritius with his partner Laura Knight, 30, in September so has plenty of time to get a new passport for their trip.

Nick said: “Laura was gutted for me. I don’t think she really wanted me to go. I thought she might have

“I still managed to go out with someone who I was best man for a couple of years ago. I had a t-shirt that said, I’m a stag in Essex.

Fiancée Laura added: “It was quite hilarious. I thought he was joking at first. He spent a few hours looking for it.

Nick’s Fiancée Laura told how she was ‘absolutely devastated’ for him
Nick admitted that he doesn’t resent his pals for going without him

“When I realised that he actually wasn’t going I was absolutely devastated for him. I know everyone will probably think that I hid it but I really was upset for him.

“I think it’s still a bit raw to tease him about it but he has been laughing about it. Everyone keeps mentioning it when we bump into them.”
