Danny Walters reveals how he landed new EastEnders role just six months after leaving Benidorm

Danny Walters landed his role in EastEnders just six months after he left Benidorm.

The 24-year-old actor made a name for himself playing Tiger Dyke in the ITV sitcom but decided last year to move on to pastures new, having played the wind-up merchant for three years.

Danny was keen to explore other venture, but he didn’t have to wait too long for the next job to roll in as EastEnders bosses approached him just a few months later about a role.

Speaking to Inside Soap magazine, he said: “Six months after leaving Benidorm, I got the part in EastEnders.

“It was a hard decision to leave the show, as it was a beautiful job with some brilliant people.

“I was sitting out in the sun for months, drinking pina coladas getting fat.”

However the actor thinks being in Benidorm really helped him prepare for the pressure of being on a soap like EastEnders.

He said: “”But I can tell you that my respect for soap actors has increased massively – it’s not a skill you’re learnt in drama school.

“The pace is incredibly fast and you have to learn as you go.”

Danny knew it was a hard decision to leave Benidorm but is glad he did

Tiger may have been one of the few recurring Benidorm characters but the stroppy trickster – who had no respect for his family – wasn’t a fan favourite and Danny hopes his new role as Keanu in EastEnders will appeal more to the viewers.

He explained: “Keanu is so much more mature than Tiger.

The Taylors are set to ruffle feathers with the Walford residents

“Tiger was just on holiday trying to get some senoritas, so it’s pretty great to now be playing someone who is from a totally different class with completely different characteristics.”

Danny joined the show as part of the new family, the Taylors, who certainly make their mark as they arrive in Albert Square.

Danny has a renewed appreciation for how hard soap actors work

Alongside eldest son Keanu, there’s his sister Bernadette and younger brothers Riley and Chatham, as well as yet-to-be seen sibling Chantelle.

The clan is headed up my family matriarch, mum Karen, who is bound to ruffle some feathers in Walford.
