A British toddler is ‘critically ill’ after he fell into a swimming pool in Spain.

The boy, aged 14 months, was pulled unconscious from the water and treated at the poolside by police before being transferred to intensive care.

His parents are understood to have pulled the child out 11.40am yesterday and alerted emergency services, who stabilised him at the scene near the resort town of Benidorm

The child was then rushed to hospital where his condition was described in local reports yesterday as ‘critical.’

It is not clear if the unnamed British family were on holiday at the time or live in the area, where they were at a villa in a private complex in the holiday resort of Javea.

Investigators have signalled the child may have fallen into the water after a pool security device failed.

In May a three-year-old British boy died in the hospital where the toddler is now being cared for falling into a pool in Denia.

He lost his fight for life nearly a week after being rushed to the hospital after the accident at his family villa.

He reportedly failed to overcome brain damage suffered while he was underwater.

The youngster’s parents raised the alarm on May 17 at a villa in a residential area of Denia called Montgo.

The complex where the latest swimming pool accident involving a British youngster happened – called Urbanizacion Toscal – is near to Javea’s main Arenal beach.
