Benidorm star Sherrie Hewson kicked out of karaoke bar for dodgy drunken singing

Benidorm star Sherrie Hewson has told how she was kicked out of a karaoke bar for her terrible singing during a boozy night in the resort.

The former Loose Women host, 66, was partying with co-stars after filming the new series when she belted out Carl Douglas’s 1974 No1 Kung Fu Fighting.

Sherrie said: “Karaoke’s a big thing there but you have to be a good singer.

“All the singers in all the bars come at the same time and they all compete.

“I was singing Kung Fu Fighting after about 15 gin and tonics, but they told me to ‘Please leave’ and that I was embarrassing everybody, and I was. But I didn’t care by that time. I was kicked out of a bar for being a bad singer.”

Sherrie – who plays hotel boss Joyce Temple-Savage – admitted she’s the last one standing when the cast go out.

Speaking to the Sunday Mirror at the TV Choice Awards, she said: “Jake Canuso (who plays barman Mateo Castellanos), Tony Maudsley (hairdresser Kenneth Du Beke) and me – the three of us are very dangerous together.

“We’re like a family. We’re there for six months of the year. It’s a long time to be away.”The tenth series of the hit ITV sitcom airs next year.

But first Sherrie, a soap legend as Maureen Holdsworth in Coronation Street, flies to the US next week to film her first Hollywood movie – with Julia Roberts’s brother Eric. She said: “All these years I thought I was too old and it was too late to go to America.

“I thought ‘Why would they ask me now?’ But they have!”
